Forest Service 2003 Success Stories
Success Stories: They're Seeing FireWorks in the Northern Region!
Fireworks is a program designed to make fire ecology understandable and interesting to youngsters and adults alike. The FireWorks educational trunk was developed by the Forest Service's Fire Sciences Laboratory (FSL) and the Northern Region of the Forest Service, which are both in Missoula, as well as other partners. The trunk includes a curriculum of 36 hands-on activities for grades 1-10 and teaching aids, and supports learning opportunities for teachers, community groups, and educators. The Northern Region contributed to production of 7 trunks for use in the National Forests, and several individual forests have constructed or purchased their own trunks. There are now 26 trunks in the Northern Region, reaching hundreds of students each year in Idaho and Montana .
