Forest Service 2003 Success Stories
Success Stories: Adopt-a-Species Education Program
A total of 13 Helena elementary (K-6) and 5 outlying schools participate annually in the Adopt-a-Species program for study during the school year. The program, which involves about 4,000 students and teachers per year, gives students a greater interest in and understanding of Montana 's diversity of wildlife. The Helena National Forest has been a part of the program for five years, along with the Mikal Zellner Foundation for Animals; the Helena School District #1; the Montana Fish, Wildlife & Parks; and the Helena Independent Record, the city newspaper.
