Report of the Forest Service

Layout of the Report of the Forest Service

The Report of the Forest Service is prepared annually to report the accomplishments and activities of the USDA Forest Service.

This on-line version of the Report is broken into several sections, all of which can be accessed through the Table of Contents.  In general, the table of contents pages are web pages (html format), and the chapters and tables of the Report are in PDF format (PDF icon), or are available as a Microsoft Excel file (.xls).   PDF formatted documents require the Adobe Acrobat Reader, a free document reader that is probably already installed on your computer or X-terminal.  If not, please read our PDF information page or visit Adobe's home page.

Some of the on-line documents we offer at this web site are in a format called "PDF," (If your text reader cannot read .pdf files, please use the "pdf to html" conversion offered by Adobe Systems.)

To view this kind of file, you must have the "Adobe Acrobat Reader" software installed on your computer. The software is free from Adobe, although it does take around 30 minutes to download it to your computer and to complete Adobe's registration form. Even though it is a bit of a hassle to download the Reader, you'll find it a useful and powerful tool -- not only on this website, but on many others in the World Wide Web.

Keep in mind too that all recent Apple computers and IBM business computers ship with the Acrobat Reader already installed (Apple computers have the Reader on the hard drive under Apple Extras).

If you don't have the Reader and want to get started downloading it, click the icon to visit Adobe's web page. Once you start downloading, you can open another web browser and continue surfing our site until the process is finished.

To actually install the Reader, you might need some other shareware like Stuffit Expander or an unzipper. More information can be found at  Adobe's home page.
