Documentation of Veterans' Preference

Type
Description
Documentation Required
5-Point Preference A 5-point preference is granted to veterans who entered the military service prior to October 14, 1976.  A 5-point preference is also granted to veterans who served on active duty between August 2, 1990, and January 2, 1992 (the Gulf War).   Preference for other service may be granted only in cases where a campaign badge or service medal was awarded during peace time, (e.g., the Grenada Incident). A copy of form DD-214, Certificate of Release or Discharge from Active Duty, or other proof of eligibility, if claiming 5-point veterans' preference must be submitted.
10-Point Preference Applicants may also be entitled to 10-point veterans' preference if they receive compensation for a service connected disability; if they are the spouse or mother of a disabled veteran; if they are the widow, widower or mother of a deceased veteran. Attach an SF-15, Application for 10-Point Veterans' Preference, plus the proof required by that form, if claiming 10-point veterans' preference.

Veterans preference will not be granted
without proper documentation.

Applicants must submit proof of their claim in order to receive preference.  If proof is received at a later date, preference will be granted at that time.
