Iron River Trail Project Update

Washburn Ranger District

July 23, 2009 update

Beginning June 19, 2009, a major construction project will be taking place on the Iron River Trail (Trail 31). This is a main connector trail to other ATV system trails. Read the News Release for specific information about the project.

This page will be updated as closures to parts of the trail are re-opened. All the re-routes around the work are clearly marked. Construction areas will have numerous pieces of heavy machinery operating, and tree felling activities so for safety reasons, the district would prefer people stay out of these areas.

The Iron River Trail Widening has been completed from FR 245 to FR 694. The Forest Service will be requesting additional funding to complete the widening of the trail for the last 5 miles to the southwest. The barriers are removed and trail signing will be ongoing.

Latest trail temporary closure:
The Wolf Trail from FR 425 to US Highway 2 is temporarily closed due to a new trail widening project. To access the Tri-County Corridor, riders will need to take FR 234 to US Highway 2 and cross to FR 241 to reach the corridor. If you have any questions please contact the Washburn Ranger District at (715) 373-2667.

Visitors may want to call the Washburn Ranger District office and get the latest trail updates. The phone number is (715) 373-2667 and select option "1" when prompted by the automated attendant. Please respect the trail closures so the work can be completed safely; know where you are riding; reduce speed and ride for the conditions; and always have on personal protective gear.
