Hardwood Biomass Research Project Proposal

 

Description of the project:  The Institute for Applied Ecosystem Studies of the USDA Forest Service Northern Research Station in cooperation with the Chequamegon-Nicolet National Forest, US Geological Survey and the University of Wisconsin-Madison has prepared an Environmental Assessment for Biomass Harvesting Research on the Lakewood-Laona Ranger District. District Ranger Jeff Seefeldt signed the Decision Notice for the project on November 5, 2008. The research project is designed to investigate the impact of removing slash for bioenergy purposes on nutrient availability and above and below ground community assemblages on rich soils under regenerating northern hardwood stands.

Project Area Legal Description: T35N, R15E, Sections 28,32,33; T34N, R15E, Sections 3, 4, 5.
