Wilderness

Wilderness, in contrast with those areas where man and his own works dominate the landscape, is hereby recognized as an area where earth and its community of life are untrammeled by man, where man himself is a visitor who does not remain.

--Wilderness Act 1964

Maurelle Islands

This small peppering of islands in the Pacific, where the surf can be heard from every corner, affords a dynamic connection between sea and land.

Coronation Island

Surrounded by towering, craggy cliffs, and hollowed caves, the shoreline of Coronation Island resembles the crown to which its name refers.

Warren Island

An uncommonly high mass of tree-covered stone erupting out of the Pacific Ocean, Warren Island is aggressive and intimidating.

Logjam in South Prince of Wales Wilderness

South Prince of Wales

Its dynamic landscape is not controlled by a single pattern; its character changes from tall peaks in the north to expansive lowlands and scattered islands in the south.

Karta River

The Karta River flows from the Klawock Mountains down through Salmon and Karta Lakes to the sea. Rich and full of salmon, this artery carries the lifeblood of the Karta Valley.
