Living With The Forest
Pisgah National Forest, Cradle of Forestry, North Carolina
As scheduled by teachers
Frequency: On-going as scheduled
(please include target audience, costs to participants, and program plans):
Third graders return to a rural community, 100 years in the past. By role playing as children who would have lived in the community, the children learn the basic lesson that today we depend on the same resources as in the past, but that it is easier to do today! They make toys, cook, make rope, and weave. It lasts one and a half hours. The program includes pre- and post-visit activities involving music and science. This program helps teachers meet the North Carolina social studies objectives.
