Partners and Projects
Looking for an opportunity to get more involved? NatureWatchers not only observe, but report their observations to scientists who monitor and track changes in the natural world. Even a novice citizen scientist can provide important data that contribute to our knowledge of species and habitats, global climate changes, and even extraterrestrial activity in the night skies!
Pollinator Partnership & North American Pollinator Protection Campaign
National Pollinator Week began in the offices of Celebrating Wildflowers at the USDA Forest Service back in 2007, and now it's celebrated internationally, every third week of June. For all things pollinator, including the Nature's Partners pollinator-themed curriculum for kids in grades 3-6, and ecoregional planting guides to help you build a pollinator-friendly garden or farm, visit our friends at the Pollinator Partnership. Twenty-five year wildlife conservation veterans, Wildlife Forever, collaborate with the Forest Service on topics from preventing the spread of invasive species in the wide-reaching Threat Campaign, to conservation of native pollinators, and the annual State Fish Art Contest (deadline is always March 31st!).
Prince William Network
The production team at Prince William Network partners with the USDA Forest Service to create distance-learning opportunities online for students watching from any location. Check out BatsLIVE! PollinatorLIVE!, MonarchLIVE!, Migration Science and Mystery, Winging Northward: A Shorebird's Journey, and America's Rain Forests for cool links, videos, and other resources about these topics. There's still time to get involved with WetlandsLIVE! currently underway, and stay tuned for and ClimateChangeLIVE! and FreshwatersLIVE! in 2013-2014. FSNatureLIVE.org provides a direct link to all LIVE distance learning adventures.
Watchable Wildlife, Inc.
Watchable Wildlife, Inc. publishes state wildlife viewing guides, Everyone's Nature manual for providing disabled-accessible viewing areas, and the annual watchable wildlife calendar. Their searchable Wildlife Viewing Areas can help you find a location to see your favorite animals, fish, and/or plants almost anywhere in the U.S. and Puerto Rico.
Environment for the Americas (EFTA)
Environment for the Americas is a key partner in bird conservation outreach efforts across the Americas. Annual International Migratory Bird Day events are coordinated and promoted through bilingual posters, bookmarks, guides, activities, and presentations produced by EFTA in partnership with the USDA Forest Service. Make every day bird conservation day and join a birding event near you!
Monarch Joint Venture
The Monarch Joint Venture (MJV) is a partnership of several federal and state agencies, non-governmental organizations, and academic programs working together to support and coordinate conservation of the monarch migration across the lower 48 states. The MJV is committed to a science-based approach to monarch conservation work, guided by the North American Monarch Conservation Plan (2008).
