Region: Pacific Northwest

Forest: Wenatchee

District: Naches

Description: Rimrock and Clear lakes pack a variety of good wildlife viewing opportunities into a small area. Bald eagles regularly nest near Tieton Dam and Peninsula Campground. Ospreys and nesting waterfowl also frequent the lakes. The North Fork Tieton River, between the two lakes, is an excellent place to view spawning kokanee, a small landlocked variety of sockeye salmon. Fish can be viewed from the bridges in the Clear Lake Campground, from the river bank, or along Indian Creek, upstream from Rimrock Lake. Rocky Mountain elk roam the forest around the lakes.

Viewing Information: Located on the scenic White Pass Highway near the crest of the Cascades. Moderate to high probability of seeing eagles in spring and summer. Look for osprey and waterfowl from spring into fall. Elk are most often seen in fall. A barrier-free nature trail with wildlife viewing blinds is being constructed on the west side of Clear Lake.

Safety First: Always come prepared for inclement weather when hiking forest trails.
