FOREST SERVICE SELECTS MATIELLA
AS CHIEF FINANCIAL OFFICER
WASHINGTON, Dec. 3, 2001 -- United States Department
of Agriculture Forest Service Chief Dale Bosworth announced the
appointment of Mary Sally Matiella as the agency's chief financial
officer.
"I am pleased to have Mary Sally's expertise in this position,"
said Bosworth. "She brings with her a broad accounting background,
an invaluable asset."
Mary Sally comes from the Department of Defense Office of the Under
Secretary of Defense (Comptroller) where she developed and implemented
department-wide accounting policy and standards for almost three
years. Throughout her career, she has held a variety of positions
in financial management, such as accounting, budgeting and auditing.
Matiella has worked as a systems accountant in a number of defense
installations over her 21-year career.
"I am honored and thrilled to accept this position. I see
this as an opportunity to further serve my country. I am totally
dedicated to advancing the mission of the Forest Service, "Caring
for the land and serving the people."
Matiella is a certified public accountant, certified government
financial manager and a certified defense financial manager. She
holds a bachelor of arts degree in education and a master's degree
in business administration, both from the University of Arizona.
Her husband, Frank, is a retired Air Force officer, her daughter
Alejandra is a recent graduate of the University of California,
Los Angeles and her son Francisco is a sophomore at the College
of William and Mary.
