Allegheny National Forest NEPA Projects

Projects are proposed actions that are analyzed through the NEPA process (EIS, EA, or CE) that involves analyzing different alternatives to the proposed action, requires public notice and comment, and results in a NEPA decision (ROD, DN, or DM) which, subject to an administrative appeals process, and is implemented on the ground. The Forest Projects below are projects that we are analyzing or have analyzed under the NEPA process. Projects that are "Developing Proposal" or "Under Analysis" may have an opportunity for public collaboration and input on the proposed actions and the analysis being conducted.

Developing Proposal

Chaffee

Proposed management activities include vegetation treatments, timber harvesting, wildlife habitat improvements, non-native invasive plant species treatments, transportation activites, and recreation improvments.

Clarion Wild and Scenic River Comprehensive River Management Plan

Develop Comprehensive River Management Plan for the Clarion Wild and Scenic River to protect the natural condition and free-flowing state of the river and provide a managmement strategy for all public lands within the wild and scenic river corridor.

FR 305 Salvage

The purpose of this project is to salvage 198 acres of partially blown down stands of trees, resulting from a wind event that occurred in July of 2012.

Greater Stickney

Proposed activities include vegetation management, timber harvesting, wildlife habitat improvement, fish habitat improvement, treatment of non-native invasive plant species, transportation activities, and recreation access and facilities improvements

Izenbrown Corners

Proposed management activities include vegetation management, timber harvest, wildlife habitat improvements, non-native invasive plant species treatments, transportation activities, and recreation facilities and access improvements.

Jakes Rocks Epic Mountain Bike Trail

Construction of a 39 mile mountain bike trail network along the southern and western side of Allegheny Reservoir. The trail includes internal loop routes and vistas.

Salmon East

Proposed activities include vegetation management, wildlife habitat improvements, non-native invasive plant species treatments, transportation activites, recreation enhancements, and soil and water improvements.

Under Analysis

ANF Radio Towers

The Forest Service is proposing to install four integrated fixed radio towers on the Allegheny National Forest to provide additional radio coverage for its employees.

Route 6 Trail Shelter

ANF Chapter of the North Country Trail Association is proposing to construct a trail shelter along the North Country National Scenic Trail in Lot 228, Hamilton Township, McKean County, Pennsylvania

Salmon West

Proposed management activities include vegetation management, timber harvesting, wildlife habitat enhancements, NNIP species treatments, transportation activities, and recreational improvements.

The Branch Stream Improvement Project

The project involves hardening the toeslope and stabilize streambank for slope stability of Forest Road 145 near its intersection with Forest Road 127 by constructing a multi-faceted log complex and installing other instream structures.

Analysis Completed

Aspen Regeneration

To maintain aspen stands and clones through non-commercial cutting of mature aspen stands and clumps scattered across the district.The cutting would occur during the dormant season and felled trees would be left on site to prevent browsing by deer.

Columbia Gas Pipeline Special Use Permit Renewal

SUP Renewal of Rights of Way (ROW) for 2 existing natural gas pipelines located within Warren County, Pennsylvania. Includes widening of a 15 ft. ROW to a 30 ft. ROW over 6,687 ft. for one of 2the two SUP renewals.

Millsteck

Proposed management activities include vegetation treatments, including timber harvesting, wildlife habitat improvements, NNIP species treatments, transportation activities, and recreational improvements.

Morrison Run

Proposed activities include vegetation management, timber harvesting, wildlife habitat improvements, treatment of non-native invasive plant species, transportation activities and recreational improvements.

On Hold

Allegheny National Forest Reserved and Outstanding Oil and Gas Design Criteria

Design Criteria in the Allegheny National Forest 2007 Forest Plan will be applied to reserved and outstanding oil and gas development. This proposal responds to the 2/15/08 Forest Plan Appeals Decision made by the Chief of the Forest Service.

Transition EIS

The Forest Service is proposing to authorize reasonable access for site-specific proposals to develop reserved and outstanding mineral rights within the Allegheny National Forest, with provisions to mitigate impacts to surface resources. Southern Allegheny Reservoir Enhancement Project (SAREP)

Enhance recreation opportunities in the area around the Kinzua Bay of the Allegheny Reservoir through management activities that include scenery, recreation, heritage, vegetation and wildlife activities.
