Colville National Forest NEPA Projects

Projects are proposed actions that are analyzed through the NEPA process (EIS, EA, or CE) that involves analyzing different alternatives to the proposed action, requires public notice and comment, and results in a NEPA decision (ROD, DN, or DM) which, subject to an administrative appeals process, and is implemented on the ground. The Forest Projects below are projects that we are analyzing or have analyzed under the NEPA process. Projects that are "Developing Proposal" or "Under Analysis" may have an opportunity for public collaboration and input on the proposed actions and the analysis being conducted.

Developing Proposal

Renshaw Vegetation Management Project EA

Vegetation management projects to address forest health, wildlife habitat and fuels.

West Zone Post and Pole Project

The proposal is to remove post and pole products from 27 units totaling approximately 1,489 acres and from dead and down lodgepole within 200 feet of an open road as depicted by the current Motor Vehicle Use Map.

Deer Jasper Restoration Project

Variety of vegetation treatments to reduce fuel loads and promote resilience. Roads needed for the project will have deferred maintenance & reconstruction completed. Roads no longer needed are proposed for decommissioning.

East Wedge

Activities related to fuels reduction within WUI and ajacent to the Canadian border and forest health.

July Mill Prescribed Fire Project

Prescribed burning to improve habitat for big game animals

LeClerc Creek Grazing Allotment Management Planning EA

Analyze the options for management of grazing in the LeClerc Creek drainage.

West Zone Precommercial Thinning

Pre-commercial thinning operations on overstocked pre- commercial stands within the Three Rivers and Republic Ranger District. Falling and bucking of trees will be accomplished with chainsaws, no change road access.

Whiteman & Upper Middle Branch LeClerc Fish Habitat Improvement

Place instream structures to improve fish habitat.

Analysis Completed

Boulder Grazing Allotment Complex

Analyze the impacts of grazing on four allotments:Snowcap, Bulldog, North Fork St. Peters and South Fork St. Peters. This project is on the Three Rivers and Republic Ranger Districts.

Currant Creek Salvage Sale

Commercial harvest of 235 ac of live, dead or dying lodgepole using ground based systems

Power Lake Vegetation Management Projects EA

Vegetation management projects to address forest health, wildlife habitat, fuels, fish habitat and water quality.

Salmo Basin Trail Structures Reconstruction

The goal of this project is to reduce long-term maintenance needs and to prevent future resource damage by replacing 107 feet of puncheon, conversion of 268 feet of puncheon to turnpike & construction of 363 feet of trail relocation.

Slate Creek Exploratory Drilling

Approval of a plan of operations for drilling at 14 locations in the Slate Creek/Lead Hill area.
