Career Summary:
My current research is focused on the role of forests in the global
carbon cycle. I am particularly interested in understanding how
current forest management practices affect the potential of forests
to store carbon, both below and aboveground. Much of my research
involves measuring carbon in the soil and the forest floor and assessing
possible management impacts; right now, I'm trying to understand
the chemical structure of soil carbon in managed and unmanaged forests,
to help forest managers protect (and hopefully increase) their soil
carbon stocks. Helping landowners and forest managers understand
that carbon sequestration is another value of forest land is my
main tech transfer goal.
