2nd Announcement of a Meeting,

"Dynamics of Forest Insect Populations"

Aberdeen, Scotland, 10-13 September, 2001

This is a joint meeting of IUFRO Unit 7.03.07, "Population dynamics of forest insects" and the Royal Entomological Society (RES). This meeting will be held on the campus of the the University of Aberdeen, Aberdeen, Scotland. We are also planning a field trip on September 13th to local sites of forest entomological interest and to a distillery. Housing will be available at the Univeristy of Aberdeen. Topics / Themes for the IUFRO meeting: Papers on any aspect of the population dynamics of forest insects are invited. These can be for oral presentations or for posters. Areas of particular interest include:

However, this list is not restrictive and suggestions for themes on the general subject of population dynamics of forest insects are welcome.

Relationship to RES: The IUFRO sessions will be held concurrently with a national meeting of the Royal Entomological Society. The theme of the RES meeting is "Insects and Disease" though sessions on a wide variety of other topics will also be held (Insect-Host-Disease Interface, Insect Control in the New Millennium, Ecology, Epidemiology and Modelling, Trapping, Chemical Ecology, Insect-Plant, Interactions, Conservation, Medical and Veterinary Entomology, Arthropod-Host Interactions, Ecology, Symbionts, Remote Sensing). Registration: Registration for all participants (both IUFRO and RES portions of the meeting) is being handled by RES. Please complete the registration form and send it to the RES registrar at the address provided. Meeting registration is £85.00. The cost of the field trip is £25.00. Registration material must be sent by June 30th.

THE DEADLINE FOR REGISTRATION HAS PASSED. PLEASE CONTACT THE ORGANIZERS IF THERE IS A PROBLEM.

Accomodations and meals: Housing and meals are available from the University of Aberdeen at relatively low rates. In order to reserve housing and meals, please fill-out the accomodations and meals form. These forms must be sent to RES by June 30th. Both the president's reception and conference dinner will be joint RES / IUFRO events and we encourage all parties to participate in both.

We expect the most desirable rooms to be completely booked well before the June 30 deadline so we encourage you to book early. We also encourage you to pre-pay for dinners bacause there is no guarantee that attendees will be able to book these on-site. While resteraunts are available in Aberdeen, they are some distance from the University meeting site. We encourage you to prepay for the field-trip as well.

Field Trip: There will be an all day field trip for IUFRO attendees on Sept. 13. Travel will be by bus ("coach") and will include a visit to a Forestry Commission site to see restocking problems, a visit to Mar Lodge Estate which is a National Trust for Scotland site (29,500 ha; world heritage site for geology, arctic-alpine flora, wetlands of international importance, Caledonian forest, wet and dry heaths and montane acid grassland, 5 Scheduled Ancient Monument groups, etc.), visit to a Scotch whisky distillery (probably Lochnagar) and ending with a "high tea" at Hilton Craigendarroch Hotel (actually a substantial meal in true Highland fashion!). The cost of the field-trip is £25.00 which should be paid by June 30 using the the registration form and should be sent to the RES registrar at the address provided. We cannot guarantee that space on the field trip will be available for those not submitting the form by June 30.

Submissions: You are invited to submit a title for an oral or poster presentation using the IUFRO presentation submission form. Depending upon the number of submissions, the organizers may have to limit the number of oral presentations. Please complete the enclosed form and mail, fax, or email to one of the organizers listed below. June 30 is the final date for submitting papers for presenation at the IUFRO session. You must be pre-registered for the meeting in order to be placed on the program.
