You are cordially invited to participate at the Workshop on Forest Insect and Disease Survey, concerning central European area, organized by IUFRO working party 7.03.10 in collaboration with Forestry and Game Management Research Institute, Jiloviste - Strnady.
This is the fourth meeting, after previous ones held in Poland (Ustron-Jaszowiec) - 1998, Switzerland (Sion-Chateauneuf) - 1999 and Romania (Busteni) - 2000. During the first three meetings the participants had the opportunity to learn about the newly established IUFRO Working Party and to meet colleagues with similar interest from many different countries. The programs gave the participants a chance to present the sanitary situation in the particular countries and to inform others about their methods of surveying forest harmful biotic factors as well as the results from their research activity. In the future, we would like to keep our attention more closely focussed to our main topic - methodology of forest insect and disease survey. Even though our group is focussed to central European host tree species and growth conditions, also specialists from other countries are welcome to participate.
The plenary program will consist of roundtables with methodologically oriented topics. Participants which would like to present their research activities or phytosanitary situations, are pleased to do this by posters.
Proposed program of the workshop:
September 17. arrival of participants, registration, icebreaker
September 18. morning - welcome session,
1. and 2. roundtable
afternoon - excursion in the Botanical garden

The plenary program (see also the information above) will comprise four roundtables leaded by two or three invited chairmen for each session. There is a possibility to prepare contributions concerning the most important topics of roundtables, which could be presented as oral presentation just at the beginning of the roundtable session. Any activity in this is welcome. Roundtable topics are:
- Recording and evaluating of forest
injurious factors using databases and
GIS techniques.
- Monitoring of forest insects and diseases.
- Flow and exchange of information about epidemic occurrence of insects and diseases in Europe.
- New pests and diseases, diagnostics, experts, information sources.
Please, pay appropriate attention to these topics at the filling of the registration form and check the particular boxes by the topics of your interest.
Scientific results from research projects can be presented by posters, which will be exposed during the whole meeting and discussed during the second part of the poster session based on the questions of the participants. There will be no oral presentations on such results. During the workshop it will be possible to use all common techniques for presentation - slides, video, data and overhead projector.
Posters as well as short papers and comprehensive results from roundtables are planned to be published in a book of proceedings. Particular presentations should not exceed 6 pages and correct English is required. Only personally presented contributions at the workshop will be published in the book of proceedings.
Post-workshop activities are depending on the interest of participants - please, check the chosen activity in the registration form. The field scientific excursion to the National park of Sumava will be focussed to the ongoing activity on suppressing of the outbreak of Ips typographus and consequent problems.
