FIA Strategic Plan

Below is a link to the latest version of the FIA Strategic Plan for 2007-2011. Changes have been made since the March 2005 version based on feedback from partners and customers. If you wish to see the changes, select "Tools" and then "Track Changes" once the document has opened.

Areas to focus on include:

  • Base Federal Program Plans For The Next Five Years (p. 9)
  • Potential Program Enhancements Or Additions (p. 12-18)

The section on Potential Program Enhancments or Additions has been priortized based on responses to date.

In addition, a number of questions have been raised over the past several years regarding the timing of our comprehensive, analytical reports. The most common being ...

For states on a 7-year cycle, why are you reporting every 5 years?

The original 1998 Farm Bill called for a 5-year cycle for data collection and stated that reports should come out on a 5-year cycle as well. However, the 1999 FIA Strategic Plan changed this and called instead for a 7-year cycle in the East and a 10-year cycle in the West, but the 5-year reporting cycle remained. We would like feedback on interest for changing the reporting cycle to match the measurement cycle. If so, the new Strategic Plan will be changed to reflect customer needs.

This version will likely be the last external review prior to finalizing the plan in August or September. Your feedback is greatly appreciated. You can either send your comments directly to Greg Reams, Washington Office Staff Assistant for the National FIA Program, or to Chip Scott, NE-FIA Program Manager. The deadline is July 15th.
