Stand-Size Algorithm
Stand-size class is assigned using a national computer algorithm which uses the plurality of dominant and codominant trees by diameter class with relative stocking as the importance value.
Data for the current and previous inventories are processed through the same algorithm to ensure consistency for trend analysis.
Diameter Classes:
Seedling-Sapling |
Greater than 1-foot tall and less than 5.0” DBH |
Poletimber |
Softwoods from 5.0” to 8.9“ DBH Hardwoods from 5.0” to 10.9” DBH |
Sawtimber |
Softwoods greater than or equal to 9.0“ DBH Hardwoods greater than or equal to 11.0“ DBH |
Field Determination
If fewer than eight trees are tallied on a given condition, the forest type assignment is based on field evaluation.
