Photo Interpreted Maps

These datasets are vector point coverages representing photointerpretation
(PI) points that are located along a grid across 13 northeastern
states under the purvue of the Northeastern Research Station. At
each point along the grid, the photointerpreter assessed various
characteristics of the landuse on NAPP 1:40,000 photography, and
recorded
them in a database.
This dataset was used by the NE Research Station's FIA unit to
choose forest inventory plots and as a first phase sample for stratified
random sampling and double sampling
for stratification.

4 types of maps were derived from the PI data:
A.
The type of forest cover.
B.
The volume of forest cover or land use
(volume is a measure of the amount of wood).
C.
The percent crown cover (i.e., the percent
continuous
canopy coverage).
D.
The distance to the nearest ecotype
(change in forest
community).
