USDA Forest Service RESEARCH & DEVELOPMENT 2005 Highlights
HIGHLIGHTS: Recently we received the USDA Forest Service, Research & Development 2005 Highlights. Two studies of project scientists and collaborators were highlighted.
1. Improving Methods for Forest Inventory. In collaboration with scientists from University of New Hampshire, Yale University, and the Swiss Federal Institute for Forest, Snow, and Landscape Research, project scientists have come up with ways to sample near the forest edge in an unbiased way, and to correct for boundary effects when cluster plots are used.
2. Leading the Nation's Effort to Develop New Guidelines for Carbon Reporting. This included updates on forest carbon accumulation curves, as well as updates on COLE v2.0, a web tool developed in collaboration with the National Council for Air and Stream Improvement.
