  • Fernow whole-watershed acidification study - nutrient cycling in forested ecosystems, particularly as affected by atmospheric deposition.

  • Long-term soil productivity - relationship to species composition, management and disturbance.

  • Coarse woody debris in central Appalachian forests - presence, characteristics and nutrient cycling.

  • Long-term trends in water quality.

 

Collaborative Research:

  • Long-term soil productivity and management effects in various forest types (Forest Research Inc., New Zealand; Virginia Tech.).

  • Nitrogen cycling in hardwood forests, sources, processes, and controls (Institute for Ecosystem studies, West Virginia University, Marshall University).
