The
Morgantown Field Office of the Northeastern Area (NA) has been
working to address emerging and persistent water quality/watershed
issues through various regional, state, and local collaborative
efforts and partnerships. Although we have been involved in
many of these efforts for some time, NA has accelerated its
work since the advent of the former Chief Dombeck's Natural
Resource Agenda and the Clean Water Action Plan. Our special
niche is demonstrating and communicating how the conservation,
restoration and proper stewardship of forests maintains and
improves water quality and watershed health. Watersheds also
provide a context for targeting our programs and working with
stakeholders. To accomplish this goal, the Watershed Program
outlines activities in four primary areas:
-
Providing ongoing technical
support to NA, the Northeastern Area Association of State
Foresters (NAASF), and the State Foresters.
-
Coordinating Forest Service
involvement in Large-scale Watershed Initiatives.
-
Providing support and oversight
of Targeted Watershed and special watershed grant projects.
-
Initiating and implementing
new projects which further NA watershed goals, watershed restoration,
and the goals of the Forest Service Natural Resource Agenda.
