Monitoring and Evaluation of Watersheds in the Middle East
Region
This project represents a collaborative research effort
between partners in Israel, Jordan, Palestinian
Authority, Turkey, and the United States that is intended to:
-
Monitor and evaluate the effectiveness of watershed
management practices in preventing erosion and increasing the efficiency of
water use in arid and semi-arid watershed pilot programs
-
Evaluate the biophysical measurements appropriate for
evaluation of operational watershed management practices implemented for
erosion control and bio-mass production in arid and semi-arid regions
-
Demonstrate effective practices for forest and grassland
management using pilot watershed programs.
Implementation of the pilot projects is largely supported by
the participating countries. Funding to support the International Study Team
activities as well as the effectiveness monitoring and subsequent assessment by
the Study Team is being sought from:
-
US Department of State, Office of Oceans, Environment,
and Sciences
-
US Agency for International Development, Middle East
Regional Cooperation Program (MERC)
-
USDA Forest Service
