The first four items (fields) on the card--station name, station number, latitude, and elevation are self-explanatory. The remaining fields are: 1. Aspect of the weather station site, as one of four cardinal directions: E, N, W, and S. 2. NFDRS climate class is the same as that assigned to the Station for the purpose of rating fire danger: Coded as 1, 2, 3, or 4. 3. NFDRS slope class is for the Station Site: Coded 1, 2, or 3. This may not be the same as used for fire danger rating. 4. Position on slope of the site is relative to the surrounding terrain, coded as L for lower 1/3rd of slope, M for middle 1/3rd, or U for upper 1/3rd. 5. Greenup date is the typical date that spring flush begins in the area represented by the weather station. 6. Freeze date is the earliest date to expect a killing frost in the area. This is typically after September 1st in most areas of the country. 7. Starting year is simply the first year of the weather data set contributed by that station to the forest's weather data set. 8. Ending year is the last year of that set. 83.42 - Sample Lead Card Deck Program /FPL-MOIST/. Stations 043603,043605, and 043606. File Used by FPL-FIREPLAN*FPL-PROGRAMS.FPL-LEVEL1 and FPL- LEVEL2. Data for management area NNNNN may have to be extracted and put into FPLRRFF*MOIST-NNNNN for use by FPL-LEVEL2 (sec. 83.95). 83.5 - FPL-FIREPLAN*FPL-PROGRAMS.FPL-AREA 83.51 - Lead Cards. Three 'TYPES' of lead cards are used. 83.51a - 'HERB' Card (Optional). /FPL-AREA/ automatically assigns "Perennial" as the herbaceous vegetation type to all fire report records. The user can override this for specified fuel models with the 'HERB' card, causing the "annual" vegetation type to be assigned. The herbaceous vegetation type for up to 10 fuel models can be changed on one card. If it is necessary to change the herbaceous vegetation type back to perennial later in the run, insert another 'HERB' card into the deck before the corresponding 'WX' card. 83.51b - 'WX' Card. The 'WX' card is used to specify a fire weather station that is to represent one or more of the areas to which fires have been assigned. Only one weather station may be entered on a 'WX' card. That weather station number will be added to the fire reports of the fires identified on the 'fire' cards that follow or until another 'WX' card is encountered. The year specified for the fire on the 'fire' card must be within the range of years specified on the 'WX' card. The 'WX' card must be followed by one or more 'fire' cards. 83.51c - 'FIRE' Card. The 'FIRE' card defines the following for each historical fire: 1. Capability area (or other geographical area) identifier. 2. Reporting Forest number 3. Supervisor's Office fire number. 4. Year of occurrence 5. Up to 2 NFDRS fuel models and their percentages. Only one fire is identified on a 'FIRE' card. The herbaceous vegetation type to be used will be that of the first fuel model entered on the 'FIRE' card. A minimum of 1 fuel model must be specified and duplicate fuel models for a given fire are not permitted. The combined percentages of the 2 fuel models (if 2 are used) must not exceed 100 percent, but can total less than 100 percent. As mentioned earlier, the year of fire occurrence must be within the range of years specified on the preceding 'WX' card. 83.52 - Sample Lead Card Deck. (Ex. 1.)
