                  CHAPTER 7 - STRUCTURAL DESIGN

7.2 - DESIGN CONSIDERATIONS.

7.24 - Modular Portable Bridges.  The use of portable modular 
bridges shall be limited to temporary installations, unless 
otherwise approved by the Director of Engineering in writing.  
Prior to each installation of a temporary modular bridge, review 
and approval of a construction drawing showing details of the 
installation, shall be obtained from the Regional Bridge Engineer 
(FSM 7722.03).

7.25 - Used Materials.   The use of railroad flatcars, either as 
permanent or temporary bridges, is expressly prohibited on Forest 
Development Roads.  Permittees shall be denied permission to 
install railroad flatcar bridges on all roads under Forest 
Service jurisdiction that are open to public travel (FSM 
7722.03).

7.4 - DESIGN CALCULATIONS AND DRAWINGS.  All bridge design 
drawings shall be approved by signature of the Director of 
Engineering, including design drawings prepared by individuals 
specifically delegated the responsibility at the Forest level.  
The above design drawing approval does not apply to previously 
approved standard drawings, corrugated metal pipe (CMP), 
structural-plate arches, and pipe arch designs expressly 
delegated to the Forest Engineer (FSM 7721.04b).

The permanent file of bridge design calculations and "as 
constructed" drawings shall be maintained by the Regional Bridge 
Engineer.
