SCHACHT Area Director NA SUPPLEMENT 1200-93-2 1204.5 Effective 06/18/93 Page 2 of 2 TITLE 1200 - ORGANIZATION 1204 - RESPONSIBILITIES 1204.5 - Area Director (a) Director's Representatives (DR). Director's Representatives at each Field Office are designated for a two- year period unless changed. The DR shall represent and speak on behalf of the Director. The DR is responsible for, and has the authority to direct, the following unit wide activities: (1) Coordinate common interest activities with the Field Representatives and local NE Director's Representatives (Durham and Morgantown). At St. Paul, the Director's Representative coordinates these activities with NCFES. (2) Chair and direct the activities of the NA Field Office Coordinating Committee (made up of field representation and BMA who meet at least quarterly). Co-chair at Durham and Morgantown. (3) Make external contacts, as the Director's representative. (4) Strengthen communication within the Field Office, and between Field Offices, Area Office, Research, NFS, and external groups. (5) Chair the local Safety and Health Committee and develop the annual safety and health action plan, safety inspection, and hazard abatement. Co-chair at Durham and Morgantown. (6) Solicit nominations for and appointment of members to the NA/NE Civil Rights (CR) Action Committee and local CR Action Committee to reflect a cross section of employees and to advise and assist the Director to meet CR responsibilities. (7) Provide leadership to Field Office "esprit de corps," Host Program, Take Pride in America, and the S&PF Forest Service local image. Maintain contact with local FS retirees and keep them informed and involved with current issues and activities. (8) Keep Deputy Director informed on sensitive issues and related external contacts. (9) Attempt to solve conflicts between Field Representatives, or refer to Deputy Director when issues cannot be resolved locally. (10) Serve as a member of the NA Management Team and represents the Field Office at Management Team meetings.
