Media Information For Immediate Release Grey Towers National Historic Landmark Information Contact: Lori McKean Telephone: (570) 296-9630 lmckean@fs.fed.us Release #08-11 Grey Towers’ Summer Music “Inspired By Nature” MILFORD, PA – A number of different musical programs are planned for Summer 2011 as part of the Conservation and Arts program at Grey Towers National Historic Site, 122 Old Owego Turnpike, Milford, PA. All musical performances are inspired by nature and the beautiful landscaped gardens at Grey Towers. As part of a larger Conservation and Arts program, they are intended to awaken for the audience a sensitivity toward nature and connect them with the environment. On Saturday, June 18, the Grey Towers Heritage Association, the Kindred Spirits Arts Program and the US Forest Service will present J’aime Trio, a young string ensemble formed recently at the prestigious Curtis Institute of Music in Philadelphia by violinist Elizabeth Fayette, violist Amanda Verner and cellist Jeong Hyoun Lee. They will perform music of Beethoven, Schubert, Dohnanyi and Francais. Tickets are $20 ($10 children under 12) and available at kindredspiritsprograms.org and at Grey Towers. The concert begins at 5:30 pm. “We are thrilled to be offering this musical performance as part of the Milford Music Festival,” said Barbara Buchanan, President of the GTHA. “Part of our mission is to strengthen the connection between this wonderful site and the community. What better way to do that than to participate in a popular community event by offering music at this beautiful venue.” On Saturday, July 9, a FREE performance by the Black Bear Music Conservatory of Hawley, PA, will be presented in the tented terrace area. Sponsored by the Grey Towers Heritage Association and the US Forest Service, the concert will feature works of the classical masters inspired by nature. The concert will begin at 5:30 pm. The Black Bear Conservatory of Music is a non-profit, community-based institution dedicated to excellence in music education. Each week, the conservatory invites students and award-wining faculty from three states to its downtown Hawley location. From weekly lessons to engaging Master Classes and community programs, BBCM is dedicated to building the community through music. On Saturday and Sunday, August 6-7, free music will be offered during the 7th annual Festival of Wood at Grey Towers. Grey Towers, ancestral home of the Pinchot family, has a long-standing tradition of combining the arts and nature. The mansion and grounds inspired first James Pinchot and then his son Gifford to become the eminent conservationists of their time. The US Forest Service partners with many organizations to continue this legacy with the Conservation and the Arts program, which includes music, literary programs, dramatic readings, landscape painting and other artistic endeavors.
