Collaborating with the National Forest Foundation’s Tree For Me planting program, the GTHA used a portion of its member donations to help revitalize forested landscapes that have been damaged by severe wildfire. “We feel this is an appropriate and long-lasting use of a small portion of our donors’ funds,” said Barbara Buchanan, President of the GTHA. “Gifford Pinchot was the first chief of the US Forest Service and he and President Theodore Roosevelt established the National Forests. Today we are helping to perpetuate his legacy in so many different ways, including planting trees.” Grey Towers is the ancestral home of Gifford Pinchot, who also was Governor of Pennsylvania. The GTHA mission is to carry forward the Pinchot legacy through programs and projects at Grey Towers. The National Forest Foundation’s Tree For Me program helps cultivate countless benefits for the public national forests. While restoring burned and otherwise damaged forest landscapes, planting trees rebuilds healthy wildlife habitat, protects critical watersheds, enhances recreation experiences, and helps address global warming.
