About the Field Trip:
- The Forest Service is organizing a field trip to the Otamendi Nature Reserve on Saturday October 24. All are invited and welcome, but space is limited.
- If you would like to attend, please RSVP to firstname.lastname@example.org (202-273-4671) with your full name and passport number.
- Please advise if you have any dietary restrictions. Participants will be asked to pay for their lunch, approximately $20/person at La Perseverancia Restaurant.
- The Forest Service will provide transportation and guides. Visitors are encouraged to bring binoculars for bird-watching.
About the Reserva Natural Otamendi:
The Reserve is 75 kilometers north of the Buenos Aires city center. It is located close to the Parana River, spreading over 2,600 ha. It is comprised of grasslands, marshes, riverside forest and woods (including the southernmost example of chaco hardwood), attracting incredible diversity of bird life. Typical species include heron, Long-winged Harrier, Limpkin and Giant Wood-Rail, Spectacled Tyrant, Great Pampa-Finch and Scarlet-headed Blackbird. Also possible are Curve-billed and Straight-billed Reedhaunters, Many-colored Rush-Tyrant and Long-tailed Reed-Finch, among others. The thorny woodlands and gallery forests are home to Checkered Woodpecker, Narrow-billed Woodcreeper, Stripe-crowned Spinetail, Rufous-capped Antshrike, Red-rumped Warbling-Finch, Diademed and Sayaca Tanagers and Ultramarine Grosbeak.

7 a.m. Arrival at Otamendi (wetland area)
7:15 a.m 5K Walk/birdwatching for participants (for those who can't walk, bus will be available)
10:15 a.m. Travel to park headquarters
10:30 a.m. Snack/bathroom break
11 a.m. Explore/birdwatch on trails near headquarters (opportunity to interact with HQ park staff on duty)
1 p.m. Lunch
3 p.m. Return to Buenos Aires
