This project operates in conjunction with the University of Puerto Rico (UPR). The IITF and the UPR are the lead institutions in the Luquillo Long-Term Ecological Research (LTER) program funded by the National Science Foundation. The program focuses on understanding the role of natural and human-made disturbances (such as hurricanes, landslides, and human activity) on the forest ecosystems of the Luquillo Experimental Forest.
