The Disaster Assistance Support Program (DASP) was created in 1985 to provide the US Agency for International Development/Office of Foreign Disaster Assistance
(USAID/OFDA) with essential technical support in disaster response management, planning, operations, preparedness, and prevention.

Program Areas
Emergency Response
With a roster of over 200 Forest Service and Bureau of Land Management (BLM) employees trained in OFDA systems and procedures, the DASP arranges short and long-term detail assignments to support USAID/OFDA responses to international disasters.

Mission Disaster Preparedness
The DASP works with USAID Missions, Embassies and the interagency community abroad to understand their own roles, the role and capabilities USAID/OFDA, and the processes and mechanisms for providing United States Government (USG) assistance in response to international disasters.

Methodology and Systems
The DASP has developed many systems, procedures, guides and other tools to enhance and facilitate OFDA’s disaster planning, management and response.

Training
In coordination with the USAID/OFDA Training Unit, DASP develops and provides training to USAID, the Forest Service, BLM and other USG personnel and partners.
