Wolves Return to the Pacific Northwest Region

A wolf pack, consisting of two adults and six pups, was recently located near the Okanogan-Wenatchee National Forest in eastern Washington.

The two adults, a male and a female, were radio-collared by agency biologists, and tissue and hair samples revealed that the two were wild, gray wolves.

Further south, on the edge of the Wenaha Tucannon Wilderness in the Umatilla National Forest in eastern Oregon, a second wolf pack was discovered.

This pack, which includes at least two adults and two pups, is the first sign of multiple wolves in Oregon since the mid 1940’s.  The pack was discovered by State wildlife biologists who were conducting howling surveys.
