By Pablo Cruz, Forest Supervisor

El Yunque National Forest in Puerto Rico is among the 28 finalists chosen for the last phase of voting in the Seven Natural Wonders of the World contest.
El Yunque, in the island’s eastern mountains, is managed by the U.S. Forest Service and is the only tropical rainforest in the U.S. forest system. It draws more than one million visitors annually.
El Yunque made the cut earlier this month in stage two of the New7Wonders of Nature voting process, when some 261 locations were vying to be among the top 77 ranking nominees—11 from each of seven categories.
El Yunque is running in the parks and natural reserves category.
Puerto Rico’s beloved rainforest joined some of the world’s best known natural attractions on the list of 28 finalists, including the Grand Canyon and the Great Barrier Reef, The Amazon rain forest, the Dead Sea, Mount Kilimanjaro in Africa and Ecuador’s Galapagos Islands are also among the finalists, according to the organization New 7 Wonders led by Swiss adventurer Bernard Weber.
In this last stage of the global competition we will commence another round of cybernetic voting. Please cast your vote for El Yunque at http://www.new7wonders.com .
