2008 Two Chiefs’ Awards Announced

On December 8th, Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) Associate Chief Dana York and Forest Service Associate Chief Sally Collins announced the recipients of the third annual Two Chiefs’ Partnership Awards. 

The Awards recognize exemplary employees and projects from the Forest Service, NRCS, State Forestry Agencies, and Conservation Districts who have worked collaboratively to support conservation and forest stewardship.

Individual Award Winners:

  • Nikki Lohse, Lake DeSmet Conservation District Manager, Wyoming Association of Conservation Districts
  • Steve Chick, Nebraska State Conservationist and Scott Josiah, Nebraska State Forester
  • Greg Sundstrom, Colorado State Forest Service

Group Award Winners:

  • Indian Creek Wildlife Habitat Restoration Initiative (South Carolina). Partners: Quail Unlimited; South Carolina Forestry Commission; USDA-NRCS; East Piedmont Resource Conservation & Development Council; National Wild Turkey Federation; U.S. Forest Service; South Carolina DNR; Clemson Cooperative Extension Service; Newberry Soil & Water Conservation District, and private landowners.
  • Washington State Partnership. Partners: U.S. Forest Service – Region 6; the Natural Resources Conservation Service; and the Washington Department of Natural Resources in Washington State.
  • Maine Forest Working Group. Partners: Small Woodland Owners Association of Maine; U.S. Forest Service, State and Private Forestry; University of Maine Cooperative Extension; USDA Natural Resources Conservation Service; Threshold to Maine Resource Conservation and Development (RC&D) Area; Maine Forest Service, and consulting foresters
  • Biomass Utilization and Restoration Network in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan – (BURN-UP). Partners: NRCS; U. S. Forest Service – Hiawatha National Forest; Upper Peninsula Resource Conservation & Development Council; Marquette County Conservation District; Michigan Department of Natural Resources; Michigan State University Extension; The Forestland Group LLC; U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service – Seney National Wildlife Refuge; Marquette and Mackinac Counties; Nelson Logging; North Dickinson School District; Michigan Technological University; The Nature Conservancy; and Suchovsky Logging, LLC.
