GENERAL CAREERS OVERVIEW
Research Forest Products Technologist
I spent this morning on the phone with a reporter. She had questions about a paper my research team recently presented on lumber recovery of Pacific yew trees. I like being able to speak to the public about my research.
There is no typical day for me. As a scientist, I am responsible for developing research studies, and I conduct projects from inception through publication. That means that some days are spent at the computer, other days on the phone, and some away from the office, in the field or presenting at conferences.
I've worked at Forest Service Research in Portland for the last 16 years. I knew that I wanted to work on this team, with people from a variety of disciplines. I love that my work is practical and actually matters. And after all these years, I'm still not bored.
