Stewardship Contracting Success Stories

Stewardship End Result Contracting includes natural resource management practices seeking to promote a closer working relationship with local communities in a broad range of activities that improve land conditions. Stewardship contracting is a means for federal agencies to contribute to the development of sustainable rural communities, restore and maintain healthy forest ecosystems, and provide a continuing source of local income and employment.

Developed to help explain its benefits to units throughout the Forest Service, the brochure “Stewardship Contracting - Basic stewardship contracting concepts” describes what stewardship contracting is, how the contracts are used, what is unique about it, and more.

Mt. Hood National Forest Strategic Stewardship Plan

Stewardship Contracting is one tool used by the Mt. Hood National Forest to implement the Mt. Hood National Forest Strategic Stewardship Plan. The Strategic Stewardship Plan identifies five challenges to stewardship of the Mt. Hood National Forest. Each challenge provides many opportunities for the public to participate in the stewardship of their national forests.
