Project Name: Assessment of risk of fire movement out of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness

Abstract: Assessment of risk of fire movement out of the Lee Metcalf Wilderness is a TFM project. Big Sky ski resort and development lies to the east/northeat of the wilderness where there is a desire to have wildland fire use. Movement of fire into the wildland urban interface poses significant concern. Managers would like to know, on average, the probability of fire moving east from the wilderness given the prevailing south/southwest winds. FMI is assisting in this project through training in the use of Rare Event Risk Assessment Program.
