Duncan Lutes (US Forest Service), John Carotti (Systems for Environmental Management), and Austin Streetman (Spatial Dynamics) will be presenting a series of workshops on a newly-developed software tool for ecological monitoring called FFI- Ecological Monitoring Utilities. In several three-day workshops spread over 6 months, they will cover the workings of the FFI program and introduce the features of three FFI modules, which enhance the basic program to enable users to create new protocols, put their data in spatial context, and to collect data on a personal digital assistant (PDA) in the field. The three additional modules include the FFI-Protocol Manager, FFI-GIS, and FFI-PDA. Currently, all of the software is scheduled to be released Nov. 26, with the first workshop scheduled for January 8-10 in Boise, ID. Each workshop will have a $100 registration fee and is open to current FIREMON users, FEAT users, or interested individuals without regard to agency affiliation. A new website has been launched on FRAMES to access the FFI software, user-guides, training schedule, and discussion forum.
