Jane Kapler Smith
Ecologist, Team Leader
Jane is Team Leader for the Fire Effects Information System. She specializes in synthesizing information from the scientific literature for use by managers and the public, and developing and assessing communications programs about wildland fire. Jane has edited three volumes in the “Wildland Fire in Ecosystems” (Rainbow) series: “Effects of Fire on Fauna,” “Effects of Fire on Flora,” and “Fire and Nonnative Invasive Plants.” She co-developed the FireWorks educational trunk and curriculum. She has also worked in fire management in Glacier National Park and studied fire behavior and effects in aspen stands of north-central Colorado. She has taught biology, biostatistics, and technical writing. She has a B.A. from Alverno College, Milwaukee, Wisconsin and an M.S. in Forest Ecology from Colorado State University.
