A Word to the Wise

In some cases the Smokejumper unit that is hosting the media gets asked by Public Affairs at the Washington, Regional, or Forest level to inject a message that is not MISSION APPROPRIATE. There is no better way to cause distrust with the media. This approach will almost always backfire and turn a white hat story into a black one! Key talking points and messages outside the focus of the smokejumper mission must be well thought out and planned ahead of time.
