Sacramento IHC Assignments

Hotshot crews are a national shared resource available for dispatch on short notice to any part of the United States and on occasion for international dispatch as well. These assignments are frequently under adverse conditions and extremely hazardous situations.

The call-up requirements for dispatches limit crewmember travel even on non-duty time, and the crewmember positions require a great deal of commitment and dedication. Living conditions while on assignments can be primitive.

Field assignments away from home can last for several weeks with daily work shifts of 16 hours. Sleep deprivation is probable as is near-constant exposure to dust, smoke, poison oak, and other environmental hazards.

During fire assignments, we work, eat, and sleep as a team. We take pride in the quality of our work, and expect a great deal from our crewmembers.

The Sacramento Hotshots are available for non-fire incidents such as search and rescue and other non-fire disasters, which gives trainees more experience with the ICS organization and its versatility.
