The crew generally comes on board mid May for two weeks of fire training prior to assignment availability. During this period of "critical training", and throughout the season, crewmembers can expect to receive a variety of training and certifications including but not limited to; 1st Aid CPR, GPS/Compass, Helicopter Long Line/Remote Hook, Fire Shelter, Portable Pumps and Water Handling, Chainsaws, numerous fireline and safety refreshers, several days of tactical field training and exercises, as well as completion of two or more 200-level suppression training courses. Physical fitness is critical to the safety and success of the crew. Every member of the Logan Hotshots is expected to arrive at work on the first day in excellent physical condition.
These are guidelines as outlined in the National IHC Operations Guide. Most crewmembers far exceed these minimums. Applicants are encouraged to maintain a rigorous physical training program before the season starts to prepare for the daily physical fitness training with the crew. Our workouts include stretching, strength training, power hikes, and 3 to 5 mile runs over varied terrain. For more information about the Logan Hotshots e-mail Scott Bushman, Superintendent.
