he Flathead Hotshots were organized in 1965
and stationed at the Glacier View Ranger District's Big Creek Work Center.
In
1993, the crew moved to the Hungry Horse Ranger District office to become
part of the Three Forks Zone. This move allowed the crew to have a much
larger cache facility with plenty of room for equipment, offices, and
vehicle parking. Some government housing is available on a first-come
first-serve basis.
ince its first season of duty on the Flathead
National Forest, the Flathead Hotshot crew has been on 406
fires for 2319 days. Work in fire does not end with the summer. During
the winter, the crew’s overhead continues work in fire management
in addition to attending to the business of the crew. The Superintendent
and the two Assistants will act as instructors for fire suppression classes
and also provide expertise in prescribed fire.
