The Crew has been on fire assignment in every state in
the west. as well as Minnesota, Florida, and
Alaska, and
also has gone to Canada several time. The
2009 fire season started slowly for the Flathead, first fire was July
5th. We spent 71 days on fire with most of our time in California. While
on these fire assignments, crewmembers completed position task books for
Safety Officer, Taskforce Leader, Dozer Boss, Ignition Specialist, and
Firefighter Type 1.
When the crew is not out on fire, time is spent
on daily physical training, readiness inspections,
and project work. This
will vary from year to year. The Flathead
Hotshot crew does a variety of project work which includes all aspects
of prescribed burning, and support in recreation, trails, silvaculture,
and timber.
