How to Apply

Please read over the National IHC Operations Guide for an idea of what we do and what will be expected of you. If you think you can handle the demands of being a hotshot and are interested in applying, please check Centralized Temporary Employment, FS Jobs and USA Jobs website to see what vacancies are open. You must indicate Flagstaff as the location in your application to show up on our referral list. We typically request a referral list in December to hire for the following fire season.

Choose the announcement number according to your skill level (i.e. if you’re new to wildland fire/hotshots, you’d apply as a Forestry Aid, GS-03. If you have more experience in fire, you’d apply as a Forestry Technician, GS-04 etc).

The following are announcement numbers which apply to the Flagstaff IHC:

PERMANENT POSTITIONS

Be precise with your application: one miss checked box could keep you from showing up on our hiring list. Prospective applicants are strongly encouraged to call our office and express interest in open positions. We also encourage you to provide a resume during the hiring process. Be prepared to describe your work experience, education, professional goals, and physical fitness regimen. You may also stop by our office, located in the winter at the Peaks Ranger District off HWY 89, but we recommend you call ahead first.
