Black Mesa Hotshots Recruitment Info

Professionalism, Leadership, and Integrity

Each season, the Black Mesa Interagency Hotshots seek quality employees to fill crewmember positions through AVUE Digital Services. To apply for positions, you MUST submit an application through this process and turn this application in by the end of January.

Being a Black Mesa Hotshot requires a high level of commitment. The fire season generally begins in early April and ends around the end of September. Essentially, this means crewmembers may spend 3 months or more away from their home in the summer.

Fighting fire as a hotshot is not easy. It's hot dirty work and the physical demands are numerous and varied. We are often in the field for long periods of time and may sleep near the fireline, eat rations, and are lucky to get a shower every couple of days.

Difficult assignments are accomplished in environmental extremes. Top physical fitness, coupled with a tough mental attitude, is a must for every hotshot crew member. Mediocrity has no home here.

If you can you take orders, and carry those orders out at all times, day after day and handle the emotional strain and the competitive pressure of your peer group then you just may make it as a hotshot and we would like to see you apply.

*****

If you apply to more than one crew and are hired, please notify the superintendents and/or hiring officials if you no longer wish to be considered for other positions. This is beneficial to both the applicants and superintendents. A note, postcard, or phone call can save time, paperwork and hassle on both ends. Thanks!
