The Bitterroot Hotshots are based in Darby, Montana, approximately 65 miles south of Missoula in the Bitterroot Valley of western Montana.
The area has a wide range of outdoor activities within an hour's drive of Darby, including access to the Selway-Bitterroot Wilderness. Hamilton, 17 miles north of Darby, is a full-service community and offers complete professional services and amenities.
The location of the crew provides ready access to the Missoula airport; the crew plays an active role in local fire suppression on the Bitterroot National Forest, which has a relatively high fire frequency.
