Fire Use is a major program element of Fire & Aviation Management. The program includes Prescribed Fire (Rx Fire) applications meet natural resource objectives as well as the act of managing all or part of a wildfire (caused by a natural ignition) to achieve Land Management Plan objectives.

Prescribed Fires Firefighter igniting a fire with a hand held torch. are any fires ignited by management actions to meet specific objectives. A written, line officer approved prescribed burn plan must exist, and National Environmental Policy Act (NEPA) requirements must be satisfied, prior to prescribed fire ignition.
