Use of GIS/Visualization Tools in Transportation to Advance Technical and Community Collaboration

Track: Technology, Tools and Innovations in ECR

Description:
This session will begin with an overview of visualization and remote sensing applications, highlights of a National Visualization Survey and identity of research efforts that can add value to collaboration and conflict management efforts. Next, examples of integrated planning will be presented: an Orange County, FL analysis which uses three decision support tools (Vista, Community Viz and QuantM); a scenario planning effort in Colorado Springs; and a biodiversity scorecard. The final presentation includes a Minnesota pilot project aimed at developing consensus building, mediation and problem-solving skills for transportation professionals and highlights visualization tools developed by the University of Minnesota Intelligent Transportation Systems Institute.
