Suzanne Orenstein - Independent Facilitator, Collaboration-Consensus-Consultation

Track: (Training Workshop)

Many public and private entities want to engage with stakeholders on specific issues or projects, but they are not sure how to structure the involvement to ensure a positive outcome. This session will examine some of the available approaches for collaboration with stakeholders, from information exchange to collaborative planning to partnerships and joint implementation ventures. It will also provide diagnostic tools for determining what approach fits specific collaboration challenges and issues. Participants will be asked to submit brief case scenarios of interest to them through an online survey, and those scenarios will become discussion cases for small groups in the session. Participants will be asked to participate in an online survey prior to attending this session.

Learning Objectives:
  1. Provide diagnostic tools for designing collaborative efforts.
  2. Provide specific case analysis and design practice.
  3. Present a spectrum of tools for collaboration and the circumstances necessary for various approaches.
